The Names and Titles of the Holy Spirit The Bible uses many different names, titles, and symbols to paint a portrait of the Holy Spirit. This series, I think, is going to be very helpful. There are certain categories of theology, certain categories into which the truth of the Bible can be divided. All of the truth of Scripture can fit.

A. Baptism of the Holy Spirit The baptism of the Holy Spirit describes the broad event of our death, burial, and resurrection that we receive as Christians when we are baptized into the universal church (1 Cor ). This is a single transformative work of God at conversion. By the Deity of the Holy Spirit is meant that the Holy Spirit is God.

This fact is clearly set forth in the Scriptures, in a five-fold way: 1. DIVINE NAMES ARE GIVEN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT. As it is used in Christian systematic theology, “pneumatology” refers to the study of the biblical doctrine of the Holy Spirit.

Generally this includes such topics as the personality of the Spirit, the deity of the Spirit, and the work of the Spirit throughout Scripture. The Personhood of the Holy Spirit.

Smeaton's "Doctrine of the Holy Spirit" is a true classic on the subject, and a volume that will benefit all who take the time to read by:   R.C.

Sproul – The Mystery of the Holy Spirit. The best all around introduction to the doctrine of the Holy Spirit is R.C. Sproul’s The Mystery of the Holy Spirit. In this book he touches on all the most important points in a readable and easy-to-grasp : Keith Mathison.

Scripture describes the Holy Spirit in personal terms, not as an impersonal force, when scripture doctrine of the holy spirit book says that He teaches, guides, comforts and intercedes.1He possesses emotions, intellect and will.2The Holy Spirit spoke to Philip and gave counsel to the church at Jerusalem.3He was sinned against and lied to   The “personhood” of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is a personal being just as the Father and the Son. The Spirit is not an impersonal “it” or simply an influence. The word pneumatology comes from two Greek words, pneuma, meaning “spirit,” and logos, meaning “doctrine.” Hence, pneumatology is the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity.

One of the most misunderstood doctrines of the Bible is the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. In contrast to historical exclusion, Scripture is permeated with truths identifying and explaining the person and work of the Holy Spirit in creation, through the Messiah, and in the work among believers.

Historically and exegetically truths about this doctrine are classified within the larger framework of the Trinity. Definition of the Filling of the Spirit Christians are distinguished from non-Christians as those who have been born again, who have received eternal life, who are baptized into the body of Christ, who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and who are sealed by the Holy Spirit.

These works of the Spirit are evident in any true Christian. We believe the saved child of God is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ, and is sealed, taught and comforted by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption.

We believe salvation makes one a member of the body of Christ and the members of this body should gather together in a local church where they may minister one to another.

It is a readable and comprehensive study of the doctrine of the Trinity in the unfolding revelation of the Bible, in its breadth of reflection from church history, amid the loci of influential systematic theologians, and in the life and application of the evangelical community.

I think anyone will benefit from reading this book/5(34). For one the verb is transitive, and the direct object is gift, not the Holy Spirit (dorea). The phrase, “of the Holy Spirit” is in the possessive case (i.e.

“ the book of Tim Dooley” Tim Dooley’s book”). So “ the gift of the Holy Spirit” does not mean the Holy Spirit Himself, but the Holy Spirit’s gift. This revised and expanded edition includes two new chapters on contemporary issues related to the doctrine of the Holy Spirit, new overview charts, handy subject and Scripture indexes for quick reference, and an updated bibliography for further study.

The Holy Spirit, Revised & Expanded () by Charles C. Ryrie5/5(5). Illumination of the Church by the Holy Spirit to understand the Bible is a false doctrine and contrary to "sola Scriptura": Most Protestants are as bad a Catholics and Orthodox in holding to this destructive and deceptive doctrine.

The Holy Spirit gave us the Bible and we can understand it as any other book. Other Scriptural evidences of the Holy Spirit’s will include Actswhen the apostles prefaced their judgment on a question of church doctrine by saying, “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit.” In addition, the Holy Spirit has shown His will in setting apart people for the Lord’s service (Acts ).

Only persons with a will are able. A Shorter Guide to the Holy Spirit: Bible, Doctrine, Experience Paperback – by Anthony C. Thiselton (Author) out of 5 stars 2 ratingsReviews: 2.

1) That the Holy Spirit Baptism still exists today. 2) That the Holy Spirit works on the heart – separate and apart from the word of God. 3) Present day miracles. To accept and appreciate the all-sufficiency of His inspired product. To have a false or warped view of the Holy Spirit.

For the majority of Christian denominations, the Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is the third person of the Trinity, the Triune God manifested as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, each entity itself being God.

Nontrinitarian Christians, who reject the doctrine of the Trinity, differ significantly from mainstream Christianity in their beliefs about the Holy Spirit. The book of Acts and all Scripture is God’s word, flawless and consistent.

2 Tim. declares, “All Scripture is for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” If the book of Acts lacks a consistent doctrine of the Holy Spirit, it must follow that the book of Acts is not given by divine inspiration and is.

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit formed the capstone of George Smeaton’s teaching. Handling his subject under three divisions, Smeaton treats first the testimony to the Holy Spirit as it is progressively revealed in : George Smeaton.“the spirit that introduces any doctrine or invention apart from the Gospel is a deceiving spirit, and not the Spirit of Christ.” (Commentary on John ) The Spirit’s Relation to Holy Scripture In handling the subject of the Holy Spirit’s relation to Holy Scripture, Calvin concentrates on .The Bible Doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
